Room with a view

We borrowed the key to "The Worlds Smallest Hotel", a project of Pikene på Broen and Sami Rintala. At the moment it stands near the habour awaiting to be moved to a new location. The view towards the Bøkfjorden is from a window at the upper suite, decorated with season-specific ornaments.

A walk

We had a walk around the streets near the city center, collecting urban architectural impressions. Due to its strategic importance, Kirkenes was one of the most bombed areas during WWII, it had to be rebuilt from scratch.

Pikene på Broen

We had our first appointment today with Pikene på Broen, who are organizing the Barents Spektakel, amongst various other activities. Over a coffee we introduced Memoria Norway and talked about the history of Kirkenes and possible future scenarios of the region. Greetings! We hope to meet you again during our Summer Exploration. Dinner at the Ritz

After recording for a while at -16 degrees we decided that it might be a great idea to go shopping and upgrade our clothing. Locals told us that the cold period should to be over soon. One man told us, the winter periods are getting warmer and shorter every year, the last time he experienced less than -40 degrees was about 8 years ago. He also told us where to get great pizza.

Sound recordings in Kirkenes habour.

Good morning Kirkenes

We woke up in Norway at 9 am. Now preparing to go outside to record some soundscapes at the habour.

Crossing Borders

After a liitle chat with the customs officer about our project and our destinations in the Finmark, we had nothing to declare but that Norway is a fascinating country. By the way, mercury now shows minus 16 degrees.
