Down to the river

When we were about to leave the car at these wild waters near Neiden, they really played this Bruce Springsteen song on the radio. Of course we had different intentions, we did some field recordings for our archive.

Reindeer moss

We stopped to take some pictures of moss and lichen for our archive and some additional rubbings from surfaces. This Reindeer Moss was growing there in huge amounts.

Topless mountains revisted

View over the topless mountains of the mining area near Kirkenes. The new owner of the mines is an Australian company.

Botanic garden

At the Svanhovd which is close to the Russian border, the institute is running a botanic garden to do research what plants can grow in that area and a museum and conference centre.

Svanvik Nasjonalparkcenter

We visited Franziska, Michael and the dog Leica who are living at the Svanhovd at the Svanvik Nasjonalparkcenter home to the Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research. Greetings and thanks for all the fish!

Hilde Methi

We met Hilde Methi from the Sámi Art Festival for a coffee right after she came back from picking blueberries in the woods. She told us how the city has changed since the re-opening of the mines, i.e. that a lot of foreign workers are in town and that there are a lot more to come.

Bøkfjorden

View over the Bøkfjorden in Kirkenes harbour.
