Real beauty

The coastline still is very grey and rugged. Huge and rocky mountains, rough piles of rock that look as if somebody just dropped them there. Inbetween the usual vegetation which obviously has a hard time with the rough climate and the barren grounds. The scenery can be very depressing at some point but as soon as some sun comes out one can find some real beauty in it.

The sound of the Finnmark

For our archive and for later use at our live performances and for audio pieces, we are recording the sounds of the Finnmark, that come in various flavours. Some of them are obvious and some need to be found, then it gets very interesting.

Hopseidet

During WWII, the Nordkinnhalvøya was nearly made a real island. German troops were preparing to connect the Eidsfjorden and the Hopsefjorden near Hopseidet to create a shorter seaway towards Russia. Fortunately the war was over before a watergate could be constructed.

Route 666

This morning the car was shaking from the strong winds. Of course it is raining. We're on our way southwards on Route 888. Locals lovingly call it Route 666 because during winter they sometimes have to wait a few hours in line for the snowplough to come by to be followed through the snowy road.

Field recordings

Wind came up, Parker is preparing for some late night field recordings. Yes, that's Gaffa-tape on his chest.

Not Australia

Although it looks a bit like Australia, we are on our way back to Mehamn to stay the night. We will leave for Stabbursdalen tomorrow.

Home is where your car is

We are very happy to have this car as our ride and our home during the exploration. We stay flexible where to go to and where to stay and we are able to carry around the tons of equipment we need.
